Olympic Torch through Shantou

    Shantou Boy to Transport the Olympic Torch

    After winning the championship of a student Wushu (martial arts) competition, sixteen year old Hong Jia Peng was selected to transport the Olympic torch on its stop in Shantou in 2008, according to the local newspaper Shantou Special Zone Evening (汕头特区晚报).

    Hong is from Wushu training base of Shantou. He becomes one of the lucky citizens who will have the chance to transport the Olympic torch of the 2008 Olympic games in a ceremony held in Shantou on May 10th, 2008.

    According to the local newspaper Shantou Metropolis (汕头都市报), transporting of the Olympic Flame from Olympia (Greece) to Beijing will begin in March 25th, 2008. The Olympic Flame will be transported around China’s 113 cities over 130 days after it arrives in China. Shantou becomes one of the four cities in Guangdong province, and the world’s thirtieth city to transport the Olympic torch. The other three cities in Guangdong are Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Huizhou. After the stop in Shantou, the Olympic Flame will be transported to southeast China’s Fujian provice.
